In 1994, The Woman’s Board began a long-standing relationship with the Women’s Comprehensive HIV Clinic and became one of the first philanthropic groups to fund an HIV related clinic with a pledge of $400,000. The Woman’s Board hosts the Clinic’s annual holiday party each December. Our Board works together to host 70 families from the clinic for dinner and an exchange of holiday gifts. Each year the Board members purchase gifts for the patients and their families and provide a delicious catered dinner along with holiday desserts. The mood of the party is very festive with Christmas Carols being sung by a talented group of Med students who are appropriately called “Doc-Apella.” The evening highlight is the arrival of Santa who distributes the gifts to the families and approximately 250 guests. The clinic staff have found this personal interaction is a critical factor in confirming the human dignity of these at-risk patients.
